This is a hand-finished sculpture of the owl that sits atop the Yale Law School’s Sterling Law Building. It is made of limestone composite over a solid and very heavy stone, mortar and limestone core with a felt bottom.

This is a hand-finished sculpture of the owl that sits atop the Yale Law School’s Sterling Law Building. It is made of limestone composite over a solid and very heavy stone, mortar and limestone core with a felt bottom.

The owl wears round spectacles and a heavily textured judge's robe with deep vertical folds and a detailed knotted collar, signaling to Yale law students judicial wisdom, perception and justice.

My intent was to achieve the exact look and feel of the original Gothic sculpture, even upon close inspection. It is indistinguishable from the original by touch, color and patina.

It is eight inches tall and weighs 1.5 lbs, or 685 grams. It took me about a month to make.

Made in the USA by me, a Yale alum who always admired the beautiful Sterling Law building and the owl sitting at its peak, perhaps the best of hundreds of gothic sculptures on the New Haven campus.
